Many of us try to seek happiness in our jobs, friends, family, lovers, hobbies, sex, money and material possessions. But all these don't guarantee a real and lasting happiness. Now, how do we define happiness? For me, happiness is loving JESUS and knowing that HE loves me so much that HE died on the cross just for me to be saved. It is also having the knowledge that HE walks with me every day and comforts me. It is having peace of mind and joy as I am being contented and satisfied with my present situation as well. Moreover, it is having a loving and faithful relationship with CHRIST. And, most of all it is being obedient to CHRIST. When you live an obedient life, JESUS will reveal Himself to you and accompany you. His constant presence will give you insurmountable joy.
Here are four secrets
to happiness that I learned through personal experience and practice:
1. Believe and Accept JESUS CHRIST as your Personal Lord and Savior. Invite JESUS to live in your heart. This is the first step to being happy. JESUS is our joy-giver as reflected in this verse John: 15:11, I have told you this so that my joy may be in you and that your joy may be complete. He is the source of all joy and happiness so we should cling to Him.
2. Obey JESUS' commandment that is to love Him. Love JESUS first. Consider this verse, Matthew 22:37, Jesus replied: 'Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.' Make pleasing JESUS your priority. If you are to decide on something, ask yourself if it would please HIM or not, if not, don't do it. JESUS added this verse John 14:15 "If you love me, keep my commands”. If you keep and obey HIS commands, you will surely be happy as stated in Luke
3. Love your neighbor. You will feel happy when you give, help, understand, encourage and forgive others. But here's a reminder, when you love people don't expect them to love you back. You will be hurt and disappointed if you expect. People fail. Instead, put your trust in the LORD. Reflect on this verse found in Psalm 118:8 "It is better to trust in the LORD than to put confidence in man."
4. Love yourself. If you think it is wrong, don't do it. You won't be happy if guilt and shame are in your system. Guilt makes you sad. Stop sinning. You don’t want to be in hell, right? So love yourself.
