God’s Word, prayer, and humility: powerful weapons against temptations

Temptations are what cause us to sin. Sin is the violation of the will of GOD or the law that GOD has given us in the Bible. It leads to sadness and separation from the love of JESUS. And, sin, when it is full-grown, gives birth to death (James 1:15) . Now, what is a temptation?

In the Bible, King David was tempted by Bathsheba while she was taking a shower. It was a temptation because it led David to sin and to take possession of another man's wife. It even led him to order death for Uriah, Bathsheba's husband and put him in the front row of the next battle so he would die. King David succeeded with his plan of killing Uriah and making Bathsheba his wife. But, it didn't bring him happiness because what he did displeased the LORD JESUS. The LORD JESUS became mad at him that He even killed his son with Bathsheba (2 Samuel 11-12).

On the other hand, the LORD JESUS Himself was tempted by Satan but He overcame it. How did JESUS triumph over Satan's temptation? Here are the verses, that show how the LORD JESUS overcame the temptation, it is in Matthew 4:1-4 it says, “Then was Jesus led up of the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted of the devil. And when he had fasted forty days and forty nights, he was afterward an hungered. And when the tempter came to him, he said, If thou be the Son of God, command that these stones be made bread. But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.” The LORD JESUS' secret is having the knowledge of the Word of GOD and using it as a weapon against the tempter. GOD’S Word, the Bible is the instruction manual on how we should live a holy life that is pleasing to GOD. A life that is pleasing to GOD is a sinless life. The LORD JESUS lived a sinless life while He was on earth. Hebrews 4:15 says this, “For we do not have a High Priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but was in all points tempted as we are, yet without sin.” Like what the LORD JESUS did, we can overcome every temptation if we marinade ourselves and fill our memory and mind with GOD’S Words and do what the Bible says. May GOD'S Holy Words dwell in all of us richly and may we become highly obedient to it.

Moreover, prayer is also a powerful weapon against any temptation. The LORD JESUS even prayed to the Father to save Him from death. Let us consider this verse in Hebrews 5:7 it says, “In His life on earth JESUS made His prayers and requests with loud cries and tears to GOD who could save Him from death. Because He was humble and devoted, GOD heard Him.” The LORD JESUS though He was GOD but He was also human in form so He needs to pray for Him to always remember to deny Himself so He can conquer every temptation. And so that the will of the Father that is to save humanity will triumph and He will conquer death. Like the LORD JESUS, we should also pray when we are tempted. How do we know that we are tempted? It is when thoughts that are against God’s commandments in the Holy Bible are formed in our minds. When we sensed that we are tempted, we should right away pray to the LORD JESUS for help that we may be able to triumph over that certain temptation. Let us be reminded of what the LORD JESUS said in Matthew 26:41 which say, “Keep watch and pray that you will not fall into temptation. The spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak.”

Furthermore, humility or maintaining a humble heart and having the strength to seek GOD'S will in every situation is key to overcoming temptations. When we feel that we are tempted, we should humble down and align our thoughts to GOD'S Words and will right away. We should then willfully reject our own sinful desire and submit to GOD'S own will. In other words, we should humble ourselves down and let GOD'S will triumph over our own will and obey His will always. Humility is the character of JESUS and should also be ours. Let us check these verses found in Philippians 2:5-8 which say, In your relationship with one another, have the same mindset as CHRIST JESUS: Who, in being very nature GOD, did not consider equality with GOD something to be used to His own advantage; rather, He made Himself nothing by taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness. And being found in appearance as a man, he humbled Himself by being obedient to death – even death to the cross.”

As a recap, the three most important weapons against every temptation are the knowledge of the Word of GOD, prayer, and humility. We should humbly ask the LORD JESUS let these three weapons be made powerful in us in every temptation we face. Thank you so much for taking time reading this piece, my dear reader. I love you with the love of the LORD JESUS. May you conquer every temptation in your life with the help of the Holy Spirit. God bless you. LORD JESUS, I love You and thank You for inspiring me to write this article. All glory, honor, highest praises, and thanksgiving are Yours, Oh LORD. Amen.

Is JESUS our GOD?

Have you ever asked yourself who JESUS is? And, have you ever wondered if He is our GOD?  If your answer is yes, then this article is for you. By the way, I used to believe that the LORD JESUS is just the Son of GOD and not GOD Himself. But, after attending some church services in a Christian Pentecostal church in college, I started to question who the real GOD is and what is His Name. Fortunately, last night that question was answered and revealed to me by the LORD JESUS. As I was reading an article about baby JESUS on the Bible app for kids which is called Superbook, I ran across a verse found in 1 Corinthians 12:3 which says tbis, "So I want you to know that no one speaking by the Spirit of God will curse JESUS, and no one can say JESUS is LORD, except by the HOLY SPIRIT." We can learn from this Bible verse that JESUS is our One and Only True Living GOD. And, no one can confess that He is GOD except when the person is guided by the Holy Spirit. On the other han...

The Gift of Salvation: The True Meaning of Christmas

Christmas is fast approaching and some people think Christmas is about receiving gifts. They think about the presents, the decorations, and the parties. What is JESUS’ will for us?

I spent my life looking for answers on what is JESUS’ will for me and what should I do with my life. I yearn for a happy, content and fulfilled life and I have this deep longing inside me for a better purpose. Until one night, while I was praying JESUS revealed to me His will. He told me that His will is to save us because He loves us so much. Check this verse in  1 Timothy 2:3-4 which say, “This is good and pleases God our Savior, who wants all people to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth.” Since JESUS’ ultimate will is to save us, He wants us to receive His gift of salvation. We first have to believe that He died on the cross to save us from hell and sin. We should as well make a firm decision to turn away from sin and obey Him. Then we should establish a loving and faithful relationship with Him above others. Take note of this verse in Matthew 22:37-38 which say, “ And he said to him,   “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with a...
