13 secrets to hearing GOD’s voice that JESUS taught me

Believe me being a friend of JESUS, hearing His voice and communicating with Him every day is the best thing that ever happened to me. Why, because there is fullness of joy and overwhelming peace in the constant presence of JESUS. I did not expect that JESUS will reveal Himself to me, talk to me, accompany me and guide me every day. I can’t imagine that the Creator of the universe and my Maker made Himself available for me all the time. But, He did. He lavished me with His love, joy, and peace. So, what’s my secret to hearing JESUS’ voice then?

In July of 2016 after JESUS healed me from schizophrenia and gave me insurmountable peace, I started hearing a different voice it is like a 10-year old boy’s voice. I asked the LORD why I am hearing a voice again. And He revealed to me that in the Old Testament, He talks with our ancestors like Moses and Abraham. That was the first assuring revelation JESUS told me. From then on, I started to believe that it is normal to hear GOD’s voice. But sometimes I got confused if the voice I am hearing is the LORD’s or not.

So, I asked the LORD again if what I’m hearing is His voice or not and His answer is found in this verse in 1 John 4:1-3, "Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits, whether they are of GOD; because many false prophets have gone out into the world. By this, you know the Spirit of GOD. Every spirit that confesses that JESUS CHRIST has come in the flesh is of GOD and every spirit that does not confess that JESUS CHRIST has come in the flesh is not of GOD. And this is the spirit of the Antichrist, which you have heard was coming, and is now already in the world.” So, I started to examine the voice that I heard and fortunately, it led me to CHRIST. It lifts CHRIST up and proclaims His lordship. The voice told me He is Immanuel, the Son of God.

After knowing this revelation, I committed myself to loving JESUS and serving Him above anyone else. I told the LORD that I want to establish a closer relationship with Him and I wanted Him to reveal His true self to me and increase my faith. Then the LORD told me to pray constantly and read the Bible day and night so I would know Him better. And He added that before I read the Bible, I should ask the Holy Spirit to guide me and reveal the truths about Him to me. He reminded me of this verse found in John 14:26, “But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, which the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you.”

Just last month, while I was singing a worship song entitled, “How great thou Art” to the LORD, JESUS revealed himself to me. I felt a very kind and loving Spirit surrounded me. I didn’t see His face but I felt Him. He said it was Him JESUS, our One True GOD. He said He is the Creator. He said He is sad because this is not the world that He planned at the beginning. He doesn’t like that His sons and daughters die and He asked me to help Him save His creation by sharing the good news with them. He added that He wants to guide us and talk to us always. He said He is always guiding us but sometimes we cannot hear His voice because we are too consumed of this earthly living.

So, what are the secrets to hearing GOD’s voice that JESUS taught me? Here they are:

1. Believe and accept JESUS as your LORD and SAVIOR wholeheartedly. Believing and accepting JESUS as LORD of our lives is the first step to a lasting relationship and friendship with Him. We cannot hear GOD's voice if we don't make a decision to believe and accept Him as our LORD.

2. Be prepared. It is important for us to prepare our hearts and minds for the great and mighty things that the LORD will tell us. Remember you are talking to the LORD, the Most High so be prepared to obey and follow what He says. As part of your preparation, pray for a believing and obedient heart.

3. Be obedient. Once you hear the LORD’s voice, chances are He will ask you to do something like sharing the gospel to a neighbor, writing something that he tells you or post something on Facebook or praying for someone who is sick. The important thing is we should obey the commands of the LORD once we hear His voice. As for me, He asked me to make a blog about Him. He is the main reason why this blog exists. He also asked me to constantly share with my husband the things that I learned from Him and from the Bible. Consider this verse found in John 14:23, “JESUS replied, anyone who loves me will obey my teaching. My Father will love them and we will come to them and make our home with them.” So, it is really important to obey so that the LORD will make His dwelling in us.

4. Give time to the LORD. We should also give time to the LORD and schedule a specific time of the day to talk to Him. In my experience, I talk to the LORD every morning when I wake up and in the evening before I sleep. But I can talk to Him any time of the day though and He answers me. 

5. Read the Bible. We should as well fill our hearts and minds with truths found in the Bible. So we should read the Bible day and night for us to know JESUS more and be prepared to discern if the voice we are hearing is from Him or not. GOD's voice does not contradict with what is written in the Bible if the voice you are hearing contradicts with the truths of the Bible then it is not the LORD's voice. Most of the time, JESUS reveals His plans and His answers to our questions through a verse that we have read in the Bible. 

6. Pray with Him in silence constantly. Praying is the most important secret to hearing JESUS’ voice. Praying is one way we can communicate with the LORD. When you pray, ask the LORD to reveal Himself to you and tell Him you want a closer relationship with Him. Also, tell Him you love Him so much and you cannot live without Him. Just a reminder, when you pray do not do all the talking you should wait and listen to the LORD also so you would hear His voice, will hear His reply and He will reveal Himself to you. You should always consult the LORD for your new plans and goals and ask guidance about important decisions that you will be making.

7. Trust in the LORD. We should trust that JESUS’ plans for us are not to harm us but to prosper us (Jeremiah 29:11). Trust that all of JESUS’ reply has a bigger, good, and divine purpose. So just trust and obey. Keep this verse in mind, “Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways, acknowledge Him and He will direct your path straight.”

8. Humble down. Aside from trusting in the LORD, JESUS requires us to walk humbly with Him. So what does being humble mean? It means that once you heard JESUS’ voice telling you to do something even if it sounds silly, just follow it because it has a divine purpose and it is one of the measures of your faithfulness to Him. Also being humble means you submit to His will and obey what He says.

9. Include JESUS in all your activities. Remember you are building a good relationship with JESUS so you might as well include Him in all your activities. The LORD is happy when we acknowledge His presence all the time and talk to Him always even if we are just cooking dinner, washing the dishes or going to the store to buy some stuff. The LORD smiles when you talk to Him like a friend and tell Him the things that happened in your life.

10. Have a thankful heart. Having a thankful heart draws us closer to JESUS. It makes JESUS happy knowing we are always thankful for another new day of life given to us. Not just for another new day of life but for the deliverance and guidance. So if we are thankful, the LORD will bless us more because we are being content and happy with what we have received and He will also draw near to us. 

11. Be friendly with JESUS and make Him your best friend. Being friendly with JESUS cultivates a stronger relationship with Him. Being friendly means being welcoming and kind to the LORD and treating Him like our dearest friend. In fact, if you consider JESUS as your best friend, that is one way of creating a lasting relationship with Him. And, He will be happy if you consider Him your best friend. You will certainly grow in your friendship with Him and will hear His voice more.

12. Love JESUS above all and think of Him constantly. When you commit to loving JESUS above all you are establishing a warm devotion to Him thereby making Him happy. Also when you think of JESUS constantly, you are giving Him the assurance that you want Him to be the center of your life thus making JESUS establish a deeper special connection between the two of you. This will also increase the chances of hearing GOD's voice. 

13. Make loving JESUS your purpose. We should make loving Him our purpose and priority. Once we make loving Him our purpose, we can start to acknowledge and hear GOD's voice. 

To wrap this all up the twelve secrets to hearing GOD’s voice are believing and accepting JESUS as our LORD and SAVIOR, being prepared, being obedient, giving time to the LORD, reading the Bible, praying constantly, trusting in the LORD, staying humble, including JESUS in all our activities, having a thankful heart, being friendly with JESUS, making Him our best friend, loving JESUS above all, thinking of Him constantly, and make loving Him your purpose.
