How to overcome temptations?

Recently, I have been tempted to buy lottery tickets. Almost every day, I have thoughts of winning the lottery, helping others especially my family and going around the world. Then, after buying the lottery ticket, I felt guilty so I checked the Bible if buying lottery tickets is a sin. And here is what I found out in 1 Timothy 6:9-11, “Those who want to get rich fall into temptation and a trap and into many foolish and harmful desires that plunge people into ruin and destruction. For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil. Some people, eager for money, have wandered from the faith and pierced themselves with many griefs. But you, man of God, flee from all this, and pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, endurance, and gentleness.”

So, having read that verse I learned that desiring to be rich is a sin because it is said in verse 9 that those who want to get rich fall into temptation. This simply means that if you want to be rich you fall into temptation and we know that falling into or giving in to temptation is a sin. It is also said in verse 11 that we should flee from the desire of getting rich. Remember it is said in Matthew 6:24, "No one can serve two masters. Either you will hate the one and love the other, or you will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and money.” So, if your main purpose and your focus are to be rich, you love money already and not GOD. And if you don’t love GOD, you are separated from Him and you commit sin. Because loving GOD is the first and greatest commandment (Matthew 22:37). If we don’t love and serve Him first, we have sinned already. And if we sin, we become guilty and unhappy. Sin steals our joy and separates us from the love of CHRIST. So, it is really important to obey. Money cannot buy us happiness.

Since I have discovered and JESUS revealed to me that desiring to be rich is a sin, every time I have thoughts of becoming rich, I tried to suppress or control my desire and thoughts. But still, I find it hard to control my desire. Then, one day, I was tempted, I have the desire to buy lottery tickets again. So, I tried to pray to JESUS that He would help me not to give in to the temptation and don’t buy lottery tickets again and guess what, JESUS answered my prayer! Yes, He did. He removed my desire to be rich and He guided me to the right path, the path of righteousness. So, now I know the secret to overcoming temptations. We just have to pray to JESUS. Before we start our day, we need to pray that JESUS will keep us away from temptations and that He will guard our hearts and minds so that we will not commit any sin.

In conclusion, when tempted, pray. Always remember this verse in Matthew 26:41 which says, “Watch and pray so that you will not fall into temptation. The Spirit is willing but the flesh is weak.” We should also read our Bible every night and day so that we will be guided and we will have knowledge of the things that JESUS wants us to do and the things we should avoid. I love you with the love of JESUS! May you’ll be blessed with peace, joy, good health, and love.

Is JESUS our GOD?

Have you ever asked yourself who JESUS is? And, have you ever wondered if He is our GOD?  If your answer is yes, then this article is for you. By the way, I used to believe that the LORD JESUS is just the Son of GOD and not GOD Himself. But, after attending some church services in a Christian Pentecostal church in college, I started to question who the real GOD is and what is His Name. Fortunately, last night that question was answered and revealed to me by the LORD JESUS. As I was reading an article about baby JESUS on the Bible app for kids which is called Superbook, I ran across a verse found in 1 Corinthians 12:3 which says tbis, "So I want you to know that no one speaking by the Spirit of God will curse JESUS, and no one can say JESUS is LORD, except by the HOLY SPIRIT." We can learn from this Bible verse that JESUS is our One and Only True Living GOD. And, no one can confess that He is GOD except when the person is guided by the Holy Spirit. On the other han...

The Gift of Salvation: The True Meaning of Christmas

Christmas is fast approaching and some people think Christmas is about receiving gifts. They think about the presents, the decorations, and the parties. They are missing out on what Christmas is really about. The true meaning of Christmas is the gift of salvation. It's about knowing that the world is full of despair and knowing that there is someone out there waiting to save you. It's about not being alone. It's about waiting for someone to come and show you the true meaning of Christmas. And only JESUS has made the biggest move to save us from all the troubles that we experience everyday. The true meaning of Christmas is the gift of salvation. This is the reason why the Christmas tree is decorated with evergreen and holly, because these plants represent eternal life. The Christmas tree is also decorated with other greenery because it represents the nature of the world. The Christmas tree is decorated with lights and ornaments, because they represent the light o...

What is JESUS’ will for us?

I spent my life looking for answers on what is JESUS’ will for me and what should I do with my life. I yearn for a happy, content and fulfilled life and I have this deep longing inside me for a better purpose. Until one night, while I was praying JESUS revealed to me His will. He told me that His will is to save us because He loves us so much. Check this verse in  1 Timothy 2:3-4 which say, “This is good and pleases God our Savior, who wants all people to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth.” Since JESUS’ ultimate will is to save us, He wants us to receive His gift of salvation. We first have to believe that He died on the cross to save us from hell and sin. We should as well make a firm decision to turn away from sin and obey Him. Then we should establish a loving and faithful relationship with Him above others. Take note of this verse in Matthew 22:37-38 which say, “ And he said to him,   “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with a...
