While I was reading the Bible the other night, I ran across with this verse in
Proverbs 12:16 which say, “When a fool is annoyed, he quickly lets it
be known. Smart people will ignore an insult.” That verse gave me a
very smart idea on how to handle an insult and I thought it is worth sharing
that’s why I wrote this article.
I believe all of us at some point in
our lives have been insulted. Even our LORD GOD JESUS CHRIST was insulted too.
They call Him a drunkard and a glutton (Luke 7:33 -34). But JESUS handled the insults
peacefully. This verse found in Isaiah 53:7 describes how JESUS responded to
insults. It says, “He was oppressed, and he was afflicted, yet he opened not His mouth;
like a lamb that is led to the slaughter, and like a sheep that before its
shearers is silent, so he opened not his mouth.” I know being insulted
hurts but we have to handle it the way our LORD JESUS handled it to maintain
peace and keep the love alive among us. The LORD JESUS was falsely accused of
all kinds of offenses, but He did not open His mouth to explain or retaliate.
He just ignores the hurtful words and bears the pain silently. He even prayed
to the Father to forgive His accusers. Check this verse in Luke 23:34, “Father,
forgive them for they do not know what they are doing. And they cast lots to
divide His garments.”
Here is an additional reminder from our
LORD JESUS CHRIST on how we should respond to insults found in Matthew 5:11-12
which says, "Blessed are you when people insult you, persecute you and
falsely say all kinds of evil against you because of me. Rejoice and be glad,
because great is your reward in heaven, for, in the same way, they persecuted
the prophets who were before you.” In short, we should respond to insults
with love, gentleness, patience, and endurance. Another verse to remember when
someone insults you is found in 1 Peter 3:9 which say, “Do not repay evil with evil or
insult with insult. On the contrary, repay evil with blessing, because to this
you were called so that you may inherit a blessing.”
Our Great GOD and SAVIOR JESUS CHRIST
reminded us in the Bible to love our enemies, to do good to those who hate us,
bless those who curse us and pray for those who mistreat us (Luke 6:27b-28). He
also wants us not to take revenge. Meditate on this verse in Romans 12:19-21, “Do
not take revenge, my dear friends, but leave room for God’s wrath, for it is
written: “It is mine to avenge; I will repay,” says the Lord. On the contrary:
“If your enemy is hungry, feed him; if he is thirsty, give him something to
drink. In doing this, you will heap burning coals on his head.” Do not be
overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.”
In my experience, as I develop a closer
relationship with JESUS and spend more time with Him every day talking and
exchanging thoughts with Him, I’ve come to know Him better now. I have proven
that He is a very kind, good, and loving GOD who never fails me. I put my trust
in Him alone because I know He would never fail me. I rely on Him completely
and put my happiness in Him. I build my world around Him and I noticed that He
changed me. He changed the inclination of my heart and my focus. I notice that
I am not easily angered and not easily hurt anymore. I become more forgiving,
gentle, and understanding. No matter what the enemy throws at me, the LORD
JESUS helps me handle it with kindness and love. Since JESUS is my happiness, I
try hard to maintain a good loving relationship with Him so that when someone
hurts me or insults me, I will not be shaken because I have a bigger pillar
whom I can lean on whenever I am down.
Moreover, there was one time when I was
insulted and I felt really hurt and depressed so I prayed to JESUS for some
enlightenment. He reminded me of this verse in Matthew 18:21-22 which say, “Then
came Peter to Him, and said, LORD, how often shall my brother sin against me
and I forgive him; until seven times? JESUS saith unto Him, I say not unto
thee, until seven times: but, until seventy times seven.” See how
patient, forgiving, and loving GOD the LORD JESUS is. And He never changed; He
is the same yesterday, today, and forever (Hebrews 13:8). So, we should imitate
Him and also forgive our enemies seventy times seven for us to have peace and
to inherit His kingdom.
We should as well understand that out
of the abundance of the heart, the mouth speaks (Luke 6:45 ). A good man brings good things out of
the good stored up in his heart, and an evil man brings evil things out of the
evil stored up in his heart. Sometimes, when I am hurt, I just tell myself that
this person might have been hurt and wants to vent out his anger or is
suffering from a spiritual problem so I just chose to pray for him/her. I pray
that JESUS will soften his/her heart and change their wicked ways so that
he/she can taste the love of the LORD too.
To sum this all up, when someone
insults us, we just have to ignore it, be silent, do not retaliate, don’t take
revenge, and just forgive the person seventy times seven like JESUS. If we
follow this advice from the Bible we will have peace within ourselves and with
others. From now on, I suggest you follow what the Bible says and you’ll never
regret. It is the guide to life and living and those who obey it are happy and
satisfied. Thank you for taking the time reading my blog. May you'll be blessed
with good health, peace of mind, and happiness always. I love you with the love
of JESUS. God bless! All glory, honor, and highest praises, all belong to our
Great LORD JESUS CHRIST. Amen.
